The Citizen’s Police Academy offers an opportunity to meet the officers that serve our community, and learn about the internal operations of the Benson Police Department.

The overall objective of the academy is to provide citizens with sound and accurate information about the Police Department and the criminal justice process. It is the department’s hope that participants in the Citizen’s Police Academy will share their experiences and learned information with family, friends, co-workers and their community to further improve and strengthen community-police relations.

Each week, a different Officer from the department will provide a class covering different topics. This will give the participants a chance to meet all of the Benson Police Officers.  Examples include, but are not limited to crime scene investigation, juvenile investigation, DWI, Canine, traffic stops and building searching.

The academy consists of a two and a half hour class one day a week for nine weeks. We are anticipating a class size of 10-12 citizens from the community.  Participation is not limited to residents of the City of Benson; however, they will be given priority consideration. In order to apply we require that you live or work in our community and have a genuine interest in learning about the operations of the Benson Police.  The main objective of the class is to educate or citizens and to foster a better relationship between the Police Department and our community.
